Army cautions against complacency in counter-insurgency

Jammu: The Indian Army Thursday cautioned the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir against developing any sense of complacency because of the decline in the militancy in the state, particularly in the Jammu region.

It asked the security agencies to be vigilant as the militants were still planning to cause disruption in peace, particularly in the run up to the 65th Independence Day.

At a meeting of all the security agencies at the 16 Corps headquarters at Nagrota, Corps Commander, Lt. Gen. J.P. Nehra, who also is the security advisor to Jammu and Kashmir government, said that the "downward slide in terrorism was attributed to the high degree of dedication and effectiveness achieved by all the security agencies in the state".

"This should not lull us into complacency as the intentions of terrorists and their infrastructure across the Line of Control are still intact," he said, but reiterated "zero tolerance for human rights violations".

According to an army spokesman, the meeting reviewed the security situation in Jammu region particularly for forthcoming Independence Day.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda, Additonal Director General of Police (Law and Order) K. Rajendra and top civil, police and intelligence officers of Jammu region.
