New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday paid homage to the Kargil war martyrs at Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi. He attended the event organised on ‘Vijay Divas,’ the anniversary of Kargil war victory, along with service chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force.

The nation is celebrating the 17th anniversary of the successful completion of ‘Operation Vijay’ in 1999 during which the Indian forces were able to take back the outposts captured by intruders from Pakistan.

Parrikar, while addressing the media, said the defence forces had put all their resources to work and were trying their best to find leads about the missing AN-32 aircraft.

“We are not able to hear it as of now, cannot say if it is operating,” he told reporters.

Talking about security arrangements on the borders, he said, “As far as we are concerned, we have ensured the borders are kept sealed and no infiltration bid is successful.” The Defence Minister also said there were not many incidents of encounter these days and he believed that they are doing their job properly.

The comments came in the backdrop of the violence in Kashmir when Parrikar has been facing criticism for not personally reaching out to the people in the Valley and taking a note of the reports related to alleged use of extra force.
