India buys precision guided bombs and Barak systems

New Delhi: Indian ministry of defence has cleared procurement of 240 precision guided bombs at a cost of Rs. 1254 crores and 131 Barak missiles and associated equipments at a cost of Rs. 460 crores. According to an official release here today, Raksha Mantri Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman cleared these procurement proposals.

While the first proposal to buy precision guided bombs or precision guided munitions (PCM) from M/s JSC Rosoboron Exports, Russia will address the deficiency of such munitions in the arsenal of Indian Air Force, the second proposal cleared to buy Barak missiles and associated equipment from M/s Rafael Advance Defence Systems Ltd, Israel will fulfil the Indian Navy’s requirements for surface to air missiles to be used as ship-borne anti-missile defence system against hostile anti-ship missiles.The Barak systems are being acquired under the option clause.
