HAL gets new LUH transmission test facility

Bangalore: Defence Public Sector giant Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), now has a new Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) transmission test facility. Secretary Defence Production, Gokul Chandra Pati  inaugurated the facility at Bangalore today. The LUH is based on the existing Dhriv design but may be powered by a newer and more  powerful  engine from French maker Snemca.

HAL spokesperson told BDK, “Pati along with Indian Air Force, Chief, Air Chief Marshal, Arup Raha had been on two day visit to HAL’s  headquarters and reviewed the on-going projects.”

IAF Chief said : “This visit is important to us considering that we all – Defence Production (Ministry of Defence) and HAL - have been working on important defence projects. We together will continue to play a big role in India’s defence preparedness”.

The high profile visit covered Hawk manufacturing and overhaul facilities, Mirage, Jaguar overhaul and upgrade facilities and new LCA Tejas Division.

Earlier  yesterday, the IAF Chief expressed faith in Hal and its abilities saying “we have been working together as one entity towards meeting the defence preparedness of the country.”

HAL officials made presentation highlighting special and new technologies in Su-30MKI manufacturing program, level of technology absorption, contribution of private vendors. The HAL, backed by Russian designs,  has set up a repair and overhaul (ROH) plant for the Sukhoi-30 MKI. This is at Nasik and will have capacity to overhaul some 15 fighter jets annually.

Yesterday the Chief of the Air Staff also inaugurated the warehouse for storing aggregates and spares of Su-30MKI aircraft and handed it over to Air Force Liaison Establishment, Nasik. The warehouse is built by HAL, Nasik with all the modern facilities required for storing all types of aggregates and spares.

Presently HAL is manufacturing the Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft from the stage of raw material sourcing. The company has produced 150 aircraft. The HAL has manufactured approximately 43,000 components in airframe and 6,300 components for engines. Twenty six special technologies have been absorbed and mastered. With this, 70 per cent of components are now made in India by HAL with 100 per cent technology absorption as per the contract in airframe and engine.
